A s I write, Dr. Mary Ann Rose is sunning herself somewhere in Florida, taking a well-deserved vacation after another successful Short Course.
Numbers at the Short Course this year were phenomenal! This may have been partly due to the nice weather we had for the week, but it certainly also reflects the growth of this industry and our willingness to keep our knowledge current. By the end of the first day, attendance surpassed last year's three-day total!
Total attendance reached 3,391for the Short Course. That's nearly a 25 percent increase over last year. Many attendees commented that this yearâs programs offered the best mix of speakers and topics they had seen at an OSU Nursery Short Course.
A sincere thank you to all who help make this program possible each year. A special thanks goes to Extension-Nursery-Landscape-Turf team members, the ONLA, speakers and all who helped moderate sessions and monitor the rooms.
By the time this short article is published, Mimi's vacation will be a fond memory and we will have begun planning for next year's Short Course. We'll be reviewing many of the suggestions, complaints and concerns voiced by this year's attendees. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about the limited parking space at the convention center.
There were a number of educational publications being publicized at the ENLTT booth on the CENTS trade show floor. In case you didn't make it to the booth, here's a handy list of horticulture publications available from OSU Extension, including some new ones. To order these publications, simply contact your county Extension agent. (See special directions below for ordering the research circular.) To order from outside of Ohio, or in large quantities, contact the Extension Publications Office at 614-292-1868. These publications are typically inexpensive (under $10); call your county agent for current prices.
