Columella (Lucius Junius Moderatus Columella) 1st Century  

Columella was a native of what is now Cadiz, Spain. He passed most of his life in Italy. The date of his birth and death are unknown but he is supposed to have lived in the 1st century A.D. His work De Re Rustica was comprised of 13 books. It was a complete treatise on various phases of agricultural matters as well as the culture of gardens.
