Description:
Butterfly Bush is cold hardy from zone 6 to warmer climates, but is like an herbaceous perennial in zone 5, dying back nearly to the ground in many winters, or succumbing in harsh ones. However, flowers occur on new growth, so pruning back heavily in early spring is recommended to keep it vigorous and under control, even in areas where it is completely hardy.
