On Monday 6/12 much of the conversation around the campus centered on the upcoming football (soccer) match betwen England and Portugal as part of the quadrennial European competition (second in significance only the World Cup). Most of us made it to the Stumble Inn to view the match on television. While thoroughly entertained by very good match, the 3-2 loss by our host country was a bit disappointing
To understand English culture, one must understand cricket. On 6/13, John Moverley, the principal (dean) of the college invited us to a local match just down the road. Some of us made it over there and enjoyed an entertaining display. However, it is clear we still have a ways to go to understand both cricket and local customs... but we are getting there!
