John Smyth, one of our instructors, is an ardent rugby fan; he invited us to accompany him to a game of the local powerhouse, the Wigan Warriors, played against the visiting Salford City Reds. Audrey Bates, our resident expert on matters rugby (she's the one with the white jacket below) and John guided us through the intricacies of the game which was thoroughly entertaining and quite exciting, although the outcome of the match was pretty clear from the first series. The hometown Wigan Warriors won handily.

Somewhat to our surprise, there were restrictions on photography at the game, so all we can provide is an image of the program, adorned by one of the best rugby players in the country.
After the match, John invited us to his house for a cup of tea and McVitie's digestive biscuits (delicious!). We also had a chance to admire his wonderful, shady, and naturalistic garden
