Each week we will are quizzed on the plants we learned the previous week. Much like at OSU, we are required to identify a plant indicated by the instructor. The correct spelling of the plant's botanical name is critical (again, just like we do in Columbus). However, one major difference is that each student grades his/her answer right after the instructor identifies the plant. At the end of the quiz, each student tells the instructor what score they've earned for that quiz. Very nice honor system. Below left, John shows the label for one of the quiz plants, Achillea 'Moonshine' (they don't use common names much here in England!). From the looks on the faces of Nate, Becky, Jim, and Audrey at right, I'm not sure they all got it right! However, all students passed the first quiz with flying colors! |
