A walk at Ingleton Falls

Saturday, 17 June 2000 was another warm (VERY warm as you can see above!) and sunny day. The group was treated to a fun day at Ingleton Falls, a place also visited by our colleagues in the 1999 Study Abroad Program (compare their spring walk to our summer walk). The falls are located about 1 hour's drive from the college. The site claims to be the finest waterfalls walk n England. The trail is 4.5 miles long up and down two ravines that cut into the Dales by the rivers Twiss and Doe. The falls have been a tourist attraction since 1885.

Susan writes: "The walk through the Ingleton waterfalls, and English hillside was brilliant! After travelling over hillsides miles we trotted uphill to sit and enjoy a lunch packed by none other than the lovely Mysercough cooks themselves. After eating we enjoyed a little bit of free time playing with the sheep around us before we set off for the rest of two mile hike back."

The walk can be quite strenous, but the varied scenery and the company of our gracious hosts, Andy and Louise (below right) made the time go almost too quickly. We all felt happily tired on our way back.

Though the falls walk is both challenging (physically) and rewarding (mentally), the sounds of rushing water make for a very relaxing and refreshing atmosphere.
